AFRS & WILMINGTON AIRPARK

07/19/2023

AFRS is delighted to announce that we have received authorization to conduct non-emergency operations in the areas surrounding the Wilmington Airpark (KILN).

Prior to this approval, AFRS was only allowed to operate in certain areas near the airport for emergency situations, subject to FAA approval.

This exciting development opens up a new world of opportunities for AFRS to serve our community in various ways. Some examples of the services we can now provide include:

  1. Local school demonstrations

  2. Public demonstrations

  3. Public outreach and training

  4. Assisting local businesses and private citizens with public outreach matters

  5. Performing search and rescue missions for lost animals (dogs/livestock)

However, it's essential to note that certain limitations still apply to drone operations near controlled airports. These measures are in place to safeguard our national airspace.

The entire team at AFRS is thrilled about this new opportunity and looks forward to offering these valuable services to the public. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety and professionalism while serving our community with dedication and care.

Together, we can achieve remarkable things in the spirit of community support and cooperation.
